My Review

Quick Take

A genuinely frightening supernatural horror novel about an aging rock star who purchases a haunted suit online and discovers that the ghost attached to it is anything but a harmless addition to his collection. Heart-Shaped Box is dark, relentless, and filled with complicated characters who carry almost as much baggage as the haunted package delivered to their door.

Who Should Read This

Readers who enjoy supernatural horror, aggressive hauntings, morally complicated protagonists, and stories that combine genuine scares with emotionally damaged characters. This is especially suited for readers who prefer ghosts that feel dangerous, invasive, and impossible to escape.

Judas Coyne is an aging rock star with a fascination for disturbing memorabilia. When his assistant discovers an online listing for a dead man's suit with the owner's ghost supposedly attached, Jude immediately buys it.

The suit arrives inside a heart-shaped box, but the ghost that comes with it is no novelty. As increasingly dangerous supernatural events begin unfolding around Jude and his girlfriend, Georgia, the pair must determine why the spirit is targeting them and whether there is any way to escape it.

With Jude's German shepherds, Bon and Angus, sensing the danger around them, the haunting forces Jude to confront not only the ghost pursuing him, but also the emotional damage and questionable decisions that shaped his life long before the package arrived.
